Our Vision

What We Believe

Under the leadership of Pastor Thomas, we have gained a superb amount of teaching and we renovated our theme and mission statement in order to move forward to engage in the ministry that God has given us. Let us embrace our theme:
1

New Hope

Because so many men & women in our world & community have lost sight of hope, which is translated faith to believe in God as well as yourself.

2

New Joy

Which is translated from the father alone, which is interpreted as accomplishments whether it to be educational or physical accomplishments bring with it joy.

3

New Life

The bible says that if a man be in Christ, he is a new creation. Whatever was is no more. New Life is translated to new anal to new standards, and the ability to rise above.

At a Glance

Rev. Milner had accepted the call to a church in California & was planning to leave Montgomery when a few of his faithful followers inquired of him to start a church. His answer was “Let us pray about it”. After prayerful consideration, Rev. Milner was contacted by a prayer group and asked to return to Montgomery. With faith, hope, charity and believing in the prayers to God Almighty, he formally organized what is known as the New Life Missionary Baptist Church on April 2, 1986.

At first, the members met for prayer and planning for the new church in the home of Brother & Sister Charles Gildersleeve. The number quickly spread to thirteen members: Nancy Palmer, Elizabeth McTier, Lena Huntley, Jacquelyn Clay, Deacon John Clay, Deacon James McTier, Gloria Johnson, Charles Gildersleeve, Lela Gildersleeve, Sally Burton, Vivian McClain, & Carmilla Mills. At that time they established a theme and a slogan for their church: “A Church that seeketh not the lost, is lost” & “The church that is a friend to sinners, with a down home preacher giving an up town message.

As the numbers grew they became too large to continue meeting in the den of the Gildersleeve’s; worship services were held in various places such as: Caver Community Center, Shaaban Temple, and Bethel Baptist Church. After being lead by the Holy Spirit, they were able to establish a permanent home for worship. On July 6, 1986, under the leadership of Rev. Milner, the church marched from their pious place of worship to their present place of worship, New Life Missionary Baptist Church.

The church was orthodox on April 3, 19 the officiating of Rev. G.W. Bozeman. On October 22, 1986, the church officially became a member of the Montgomery Antioch District Baptist Association. The enlargement of the church was completed under the leadership of pastor Milner in February 1989. Three ministers were called among the flock, which includes: Pastor Milner, Rev. Jamel Tolliver, & Rev. James Hall. Other sons were Rev. Manning Perkins & Rev. Frank Likely. Rev. John E. Clay and Rev. Eddie Huntley were later called into the ministry.

Among the many accomplishments was the organization of the following auxiliaries: Matrons, TWA & Red Circles, Baptist Training Union, Missionary Society, Will Davis Ushers, Pastor’s Love Ministry, Christian Education Department, Deacons, Deacons’ Wives, Mother Board, Courtesy Guild, Nurses Guild, Crusaders, Senior Usher Board, Inspirational Singers, Gospel Chorus, Mittie Scott Ushers, Male Ushers, & the Sunbeam.

On January 21, 1994, the Lord called His shepherd, Pastor Milner, home to rest. Homecoming services were held on Thursday, January 27, 1994, here at the church that he loved so much. In January 1995, God sent us another shepherd to continue to build on the dream that had had started. This shepherd’s name is Rev. Charles E. Thomas. Pastor Thomas and his family were installed as our new pastor on Sunday, April 2, 1995. During his reign as Pastor, the membership has grown to well over 1,000 members, the ordination of five new deacons and three ministers. Pastor Thomas established a great vision for this church and immediately set out on his mission, “For Once Let’s Do This Right.”

Under the leadership of Pastor Thomas many ministries and organizations were formed and they are as follows: removed old sanctuary, new robes for the junior choir, “Save our Ministry”, Scholarship and Standard Committee, Radio Ministry (Morning Glory WXPI), Statewide Television Broadcast (UPN 67), Youth Church with Junior Deacons, Liquidated the mortgage for the annex building, accumulated $250,000 for building, Feed the hungry for Thanksgiving & Christmas, Angel Tree and Community adoption, new facility at 1943 Rosa Parks, erected brick & iron fence at new facility, new pews for sanctuary, new pulpit & furnishings, new church van, new building purchased & remodeled for offering medical assistance, food, subsidy, and work release for the surrounding community, recording choir, praise team, junior praise team, singing sons, sweating in the spirit (women’s exercise), teen girl ministry, new robes for adult choir, instituted 8:00 service with free breakfast, mother’s day & father’s day breakfast with special gifts on these days, summer time travel for children.
